Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool

Leatherman 830032 Blast MultitoolThe Leatherman Blast Multitool has a lot of tools at a great price point. It has nice long blades on the knives, saw and file which I always look for. I hate when a multitool knife is too short to be useful. This multitool is 100% stainless steel and very durable. The clip-point knife blade is made of 420HC Steel and is 3 inches in length. The Blast Multitool comes with needlenose pliers and regular pliers. The pliers have a great grip and the teeth line up nicely. The Blast also comes with wire cutters and hard-wire cutters, A wire stripper, wood/metal file, the clip-point knife blade, a saw which has an open tooth design for quick starts to whatever you’re sawing, scissors, which are rather small but can still cut very well, a large screwdriver, small screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a small bit driver with one double ended bit, an 8 inch ruler, the bottle/can opener and a lanyard attachment. The Leatherman Blast Multitool is 4 inches in length when closed so depending on your personal preference is still small enough to carry in your pocket. (I’m not big on wearing a sheath for multitools).

The handles on the Blast Multitool have Zytel inserts, which makes it a little wider and more comfortable to grip. I love the Zytel inserts and don’t be fooled, Zytel is a high-grade very tough plastic material. It wont be cracking when you drop your multitool. One of the things that make this multitool smooth to use are the washers between tools so that you don’t get 4 tools out when trying to pull one specific one out. They really help prevent multiple tools from binding together when you go to use them.

The sheath is leather and it is rather thin, but the worst part about the sheath are the brass rivets in the back (which could possibly scuff up the finish on the multitool), well that and the fact that you only get one mounting option, which is to wear it vertically on your belt and that’s it. I am not a big fan of sheaths for multitools but I am even less of a fan of this particular sheath. If you’re going to use a sheath spend the extra bit of cash and get a better nylon sheath. All blades lock for safety. If you like the leatherman bit system you should consider picking up the Leatherman 40-Bit Assortment to go with your multitool.
