The Gerber 22-01771 EVO Multitool is a nice durable multitool which is pretty compact at under 4 inches when closed and only 6 inches when opened. The EVO Multitool comes with a serrated knife blade and a fine edge knife blade which is a good thing. When multitools combine the serrations with a straight edge knife blade, you lose half of your cutting edge to serrations and it becomes a pain to sharpen. The knife blade sharpens to razor-sharp rather easily and holds its edge moderately well. Having a separate serrated blade is a great thing to me. The pliers are spring-loaded which makes them more powerful. The scissors are also spring-loaded which gives them extra cutting power. One of the other things that is great about this multitool is that the tools are all outboard so you don’t have to open the multitool to access the tools. The other tools in the EVO include small and large flat head screwdrivers, Phillips head screwdriver, Can opener, bottle opener, of course the needlenose pliers, the serrated and straight edge knife blades, wire cutters and lanyard. The spring-loaded pliers and scissors really help make working with this multitool very smooth and prevent fatigue when using it for extended periods of time.

The EVO comes with a nylon sheath that has a Velcro strap. Some people have complained about the Velcro wearing out rather quickly and not holding any longer. I don’t use the sheath since this multitool fits nicely in my pocket but you may want to look at getting a different sheath if you decide to go with the Gerber EVO Multitool.
